We are sad to share the news that Mrs Elizabeth (Liz) Speddy, former Headteacher of Thornton College, passed away peacefully in hospital in Northallerton, North Yorkshire on Friday 12th April 2024.

Liz was a huge part of the Thornton community for many years teaching English, before becoming the Headteacher in the early 1990s. She was a lovely lady and is remembered for her kindness; many students will recall leaving her office with a chocolate and feeling much better about things!

Liz was wife of the late William (Bill) Speddy and a much loved and adored Mum to Michael, Simon and Rachel and a Grandma to Amelie and Herbie. Her funeral service is to take place at Darlington Crematorium on Thursday 2nd May at 2pm.

Mrs Speddy is pictured having tea with Sr Mary James and students in the drawing room.
